SERIOUSLY!!
I joined a few months ago and have gone from "Honey, I want chickens!" to "WE HAVE CHICKENS!"
This sight and so many of you have been instrumental in my dream coming true! I researched EVERYTHING here: breeds, care, buildings, feed, games, health, egg color, and everything related to chickens we needed to get started!
From ideas and coop plans to picking up our birds just this last Saturday (May 21) I am now a happy camper of 4 Black Sex Links ladies! We will be trying our hands at Barred Rock chicks later this summer.
I am an Occupational Therapist Assistant of 15 years, a grandma of a great 3 year old, and of course, animal lover.
Here's a few pics of the "journey":
I have them named Dolly, Reba, Patsy and Winnie (Mini Winnie- as she is the smallest). It has been great learning about their personalities and training them to be sweet pets! (That hasn't been hard at all.)
Dolly is standoffish and is one of the 2 biggest, she can also be seen as the "leader"; Reba is the other "big" bird, but she is so friendly and not shy at all! She is the one who will come right to me and ate from my hand first. Patsy is little, somewhat skittish if you move too quickly, but friendly and doesn't mind being held. Winnie is little, very docile when touched and held, but independent. She does get pushed around a bit, but she has spunk. She and Riley are buddies!
