I am new to chickens and am enjoying my early experience. This egg was laid yesterday by one of our RIRs. Is an egg so oddly shaped common? Thanks.

I dont think so XD Its a pretty unusual shape! :D

A proud member of 4h and a strong bearer of the Pacific Northwest and its Cold, not to mention a chicken mommy of 3 Cochins, 1 Sicilian Buttercup, 2 Bantam EE, 1 RIR/EE Mix, 1 Mille Fleur Booted Bantam, and 2 bantam OEGB's, a Black Bearded Silkie and a double laced silver Plymouth Bantam!

Wow! THAT IS A BAZAR shape! If you haven't already, you should look at the education part of BYC. There is an excellent article about egg abnormalities. I don't recall seeing an egg like yours in it but it might. At any rate it's a very interesting read.
