What can I do about my nasty hen?

One time I had a predator adjust my flock. Which sound terrible, but almost immediately, my flock calmed down. I did not recognize the tension, until it was gone. But once you recognize it, you are more attuned to it in the future. I want a happy, calm flock. I cull to meet that.

Chicken math, we all want more, and there is nothing wrong with adding birds. However, for most of us, the coop is the size it is... while you can cheat a bit with chicks and long days of summer... one has to fit the measurements of the coop come the fall. I agree with your husband. A flock that fits in the coop, is a much happier and healthier flock.

Good luck!
