This started end of last week. I had another hen with this awhile back and hers cleared up. This one looks a lot worse. I figured another hen pecked her since she isn't a part of the top group. Do I need to do anything or will it just heal?

Try to get the gunk out her eye.
You can flush it with saline or you may need to place a warm damp compress on the eye to loosen up the matter. Then gently start working the pus out with a qtip. Get all you can out. Then apply Vetericyn eye gel or Terramycin eye ointment in the eye. You may have to repeat the process to help clear the pus out.

It's possible she could have been pecked and it became infected or she may have gotten something in the eye that festered.

Any other symptoms, have you heard her coughing, sneezing, wheezing, does she smell etc.?

Couldn't get anything out with the qtips. It's all hard. Will try what you mentioned tomorrow.

If you have plain neosporin (no pain relief formulas) you can use that.
With chickens pus will become hard so you may have to try using some tweezers to get some of the gunk out. It may take several attempts and having to reapply compresses to get it to start loosening up.
Some people find wrapping the chicken loosely in a towel helps to keep them still.

Ok. So I got the eye gel and neosporin. Took that and a qtip out there, wrapped her in a towel and held her between my legs. Didn't have any tweezers except the ones I used so I used the qtip and my finger nail. I guess messing win it yesterday loosened it up. It came out easy today. Got all but a little bit. Put the gel in but not neosporin. Will try for the rest tomorrow and put in neosporin. Wondering if she will lose the eye

Glad you were able to get that gunk out, good job!
Try to get the rest and if possible, apply the ointment 2x a day.
As far as losing the eye, time will tell, but many times I have seen where they have no long term problems, especially if the infection was caused by foreign matter/debris in the eye. If she was pecked, then it would depend on what "damage" the peck made.

Please keep us updated.

I went to get the rest out yesterday but her eye was shut and swollen. I couldn't do anything but just put neosporin across it and hope some got in. It's swollen more this morning. I was going to do the Tylan 50 and see if that will help. Orally or injection? Dosage? Egg withdrawal time?
Thx for the help

If the eye infection is from a respiratory infection, then Tylan would work. If it is from E.coli or an unknown bacterial infection, you would be better off getting some ciprofloxcin eye drops from firststatevetsupply.com. Tylan can be given at a minimum of 5 mg per pound of weight, twice a day for 3-5 days. Larger doses can be given than that. Plumbs vet med book says 10-40 mg per Kg or each 2.2 pounds twice a day. You may be able to get something different/better form your local vet if possible.

If the Tylan doesn't help, then I would probably send off for the Cipro drops or get some locally. Or you could just use enrofloxacin or Baytril oral or injectable.

I cleaned it 3 times and put neosporin in. Each day it filled back with pus. Last week my whole house got something like the stomach flu. Needless to say I finally got back out there today to clean it again. She lost her eye. I couldn't get all the pus out. It started bleeding and she was getting stressed. I put as much neosporin in as I could. What to do now???
