Hi guys. I was incubating a few quail eggs, and they were developing perfectly fine. This morning my dog accidently hit the incuantor, and the thermometer fell down, putting small cracks in a couple of eggs. No pieces of shell came of. The cracks are very thin. I candled them and the chicks are still moving. Should I leave it alone or try fixing them with wax or nail polish? Any advice would really help!
Thanks

If hatch time is close I'd leave be. If more than a couple days away I would carefully seal the crack with the nail polish. My wife uses super glue to mend cuts and repair teeth on herself and me. I wonder how that would work with egg cracks/holes.

NOW I see the pictures! I'd try a repair job, but the cracks look all the way through the membrane. I'd worry that the polish would get inside the egg. I believe I would use wax. Those cracks look bad; good chance the embryo has already been compromised and will die as a result. Even so, I'd try... Good luck

So I used nail polish to cover the cracks. But some of it is in the pipping area. Will they be able to pip through it?

Possibly. With something like this it is a matter of wait and see. I have doubts they will make it to hatching, but...who knows. Just when you think the egg is ruined it hatches.

About 10-12 hours after the incident happened, I candles the eggs. The chicks in both repaired eggs are still alive and moving. Hoping they hang in there 4 more days!
