I have read and read all on this site, and thank each of you for wonderful stories that have helped me get started with my chics! Attached is a photo of the babies I picked up today. They are in a temporary Rubbermaid container for today only. I'm keeping them outside in my screen porch during the day (it is 90ish here) and then at night (it's down to around 70 outside) I will bring them in with a light for warmth. I grew up on a farm as a child, now I am in the county. I started my first garden this year also!
The chicks are:
1 barred rock(spelling?)
1 RIR
2 Americauna-my daughters will love these I think
1 Yellow something-completely slips my mind. Any help with the yellow chic?

I got a mix because back in the day we only ever had (it's all that anyone had around) was Bantams so I wanted to enjoy getting to know several breeds.

Well, the mobile app isn't letting me attach a pic :( I will do that tonight when I am on my computer!

Sounds like you are providing very thoughtful care for them already . Wish we could see photos. I'm sure someone will be coming along who can tell you how to post from cell phones. I don't have one, and to be frank even with my several years on BYC never learned to post photos. Have to nag son or brother to do it for me. I am not at all tech savvy.

Let's see...

Now that I was able to get a pic uploaded... Although they're babies, they all have such different personalities! The barred rock is a loving, cuddling type. She will refuse to get off my hand. The Americauna are both loud and chatty, one is are little mean to the others, and they're always looking for an escape lol. The RIO arena my forgotten yellow baby are both your average, sweet, docile chicks.

We all survived the night, although I could not sleep for worry over them! Lol. They didn't get quiet until about 11pm, and at 7am were a bit groggy when I woke them up lol. They're all chirps and snuggles now though. My RIR baby is very curious, especially of me. I'm really enjoying her personality. I remember my mom raising birds indoors by hand (household breeds not chickens lol) and she'd always click her tongue to calm them. Well, I guess I picked up the habit. The Americaunas could care less, they just want down usually lol. The RIR couldn't get close enough to my face and lips the more I made the noise. Turning her little head side to side and really investigating what I was and where the sound was coming from.

Well, this is quite fun! Lol

Now, I have a golden retriever who cries because he wants to be able to see the chicks 24/7 lol. I hope to get individual pics soon.
