sudden blindness and pox?

Hi, I just joined the BYC to ask these questions. I'm a new chicken parent. (1) My rooster, a little over a year old, suddenly went blind in one eye. The other eye is normal. He lives with two hens in a very large fenced-in run and a secured coop. No fighting as far as I know. What caused his blindness? What can I do about it?

(2) The two hens have some white and black dots on their crowns. Is this avian pox or injury? If it is pox, how can I stop further infection?

Thanks,
Zhen

It does look as if your birds have pox. Type fowl pox in the search bar at the top of the page for information and treatment ideas. If it were me, I would obtain ophthalmic ointment and start treating the rooster's eye. It is probably infected and he may very well not be blind.

Thanks so much for your reply. Do you think that the rooster developed pox in or near the eye, which caused the eye to shut?
