Is this a cream legbar rooster?

Oh -- have to say too -- I know the 'recipe' for Cream Legbar autosexing -- and so I definitely have that perspecive/bias -- LOL - like that old saying 'if the only tool you know how to use is a hammer -- you will treat every problem like a nail'

Wait -- I think I told you wrong....:O( -- Maybe you could use your barred guy over RIR hen..... because your objective is to get barred in RIR -- and all the females from that type pairing would be Rhodebars I think -- (females only have place-holder for one barring gene which they would get from daddy)

I'm sure you will find out more talking with Rhodebar-knowledgeable people.....

At last -- a phot of supposed Rhodebar chicks -- and it looks like they autosex the same way as Cream Legbars -- i.e. males have white headspot.
These are from 2012 byc person papabrooder, in the Rhodebar thread here on Byc.

I was really curious how they would look!
ETA -- this may not be right.......:O(

Okay -- here is a paper from the University of British Columbia in Canada posted by Keith in South Carolina in that same thread -- at around page 20 they start talking about chick down and saying that white headspot is definite indication of a male. :O)

Bingo -- get that barring in there (two copies for male and one copy (of course) for female and your on your way!!

I might as well use him over RIR hens because I already have them. Im sure the first cross is always going to be a mismatch of colours and sizes but if I cross him back over I should have an autosexing chicken.
Wow a lot of info! I think the two chicks he has already produced are both pullets, but they both have the white dots on their heads... or maybe if I cross him with RIRs the females will have the white dot?
I'll be using hens that arent good enough to be bred in my RIR breeding pen that way I have a use for them. Plus it'll be a first trial to see how he goes, the hens are huge 3-4 times his size so he'll have to work hard to get it done.
I think it'll take a few generations to be able to say something is 100% autosexing.

Is there any autosexing breeds that are a pure original breed? Or are they all mixes of others to create the gene?

From what I know -- the autosexing breeds are breeds that R.C.Punnett developed in the 1930's. Some say that Barred Plymouth Rocks are sexable at hatch (hence would be autosexing) -- but I saw a thread on that here on BYC -- and I wasn't 1005 certain how easily I personally could ever 100% guarantee sex of chick based on the photos...

Hi, I thought I'd put the rooster in with both rir and some isa browns. In the end only one chick hatched so I dont know if there is a difference in gender as chicks. This is the result. I believe the mother of the chick is an isa brown as she doesnt look like a rhodebar or similar, she kinda looks like a plymouth rock. She does have some brown colour through her. Her barring is pretty strong considering only the rooster is barred.
