My husband and I started raising chickens last year and love it! We started out with 6 chicks and two ducklings last year but unfortunately learned the hard way about critter safeing our coop and lost them all to raccoons!:(. We have reinforced our coop and are trying again this year and have expanded our flock to 14 chickens! We have 4 Ida reds, 2 buff orpingtons, 2 crested polish, 2 buff Cochins, 1 black Cochin, 1 white Cochin, 1 Dominique and 1 Ancona. We are excited to be members of backyard chickens and have already learned so much from the site and other members!

Glad you have joined our community and what a lovely assortment of breeds you have! The Learning Center has tons of information and if you want to get in touch with other members from Michigan just type Michigan in the search box. I wish you well in your chicken adventures!

I'm finding that you are right... It is addictive!

Did you have problems with your polish chicks plucking each others crests? I separated mine from the other chicks because they were getting plucked but am thinking the polish chicks might be plucking at each other's. Any tips to stop them?
