Hi there

We have 9 W/B/S chicks - about 11 weeks old today

We're trying to figure out what we have gender-wise.

I'm making an assumption - please correct me if I'm wrong, that the darker colored are all males..I can post more individual picks, but can you take a look at this from about 2 weeks ago and let me know if I'm right in my assumptions (that wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucana's are darker than the females)

Thanks
Lisa

I would agree with you on this one, actually.

My Wheaten cockerel feathered in darker than the pullet initially, so I would guess the same is also true for the Blue Wheatens.

Oh, and welcome to BYC!!!!!

You're correct. That first picture shows the difference perfectly. The birds in front with more blue are cockerels, and the soft brown birds in the back are females.

Thank you so much for super quick replies

I'm bummed but that's what I thought...

What about the 2 lighter (gray/whitish) ones on the left of the 3rd picture? I assume they are males too given they have more color and red/brown splotches on the wings, but it's worth asking...

If they are boys too then I have only 2 females out of a batch of 9...darn! They are beautiful though

They look splash colored. That's not a color that's sexable, so we'll need better pictures. Comb shots, profile shots of the bird and age.
