What gender is this?

Thank you so much for the info! Oh I really hope my SS is not a rooster. Love her, but I'll have a chance to get another chick end of July at my feed store in Petaluma. Was just hoping to avoid introducing a lone chick to an established flock.

Don't worry just yet. I had one that could have gone either way. Now that they are 10 weeks the boys are all growing sicle feathers and the girls are growing hen feathers. They are still very small and hiding under the feathers that are already grown in, but they're there. The one bird that we were unsure of ended up being a girl.

Thanks so much for giving me hope. I'll check again at 10 weeks. It's funny how quickly the bantams are just screaming rooster in comparison but I get that all breeds are different. Have a great evening.

EE cockerel? Not sure.

RIR - both look like girls

And yes very pretty chickens you have. :)

Thanks much!!

My daughter is really attached to that 'possible EE cockerel' named "Elfie" so that one is staying but if any more cockerels show up,they gotta go.  The feed store that sold the RIR's also had 'Americaunas' so Elfie could have somehow transferred to the RIR bin.  All 3 biddies looked about the same when 4 days old, Elfie was just a little more yellow.  I wasn't sure about that biddie but DD picked it out and was determined to have it.  ;)

We also have 5 amber link layers from TSC.  One is a little larger & challenges Elfie so I am worried about it, but all the amber links look about the same to my untrained eyes.

Post some pictures of the amber links if you are concerned about cockerels. I'm pretty certain that Elfie is an EE cockerel. Hope all works out for you! :)

Does silkie ear lobe color determine gender? I had6 12 week old white silkies and 3 showed male quite early (huge mulberry combs and waddles) which i rehomed. 3 are smaller and built different with no waddles or large comb at all, but only 2 have blue ear lobes and 1 has a teal ear lobe like all 3 of the males had.

That makes sense. I missed how obvious that was. LOL. Thanks drumstick
