Thanks everyone - the two appenzellers are now both trying to crow so definitely cockerels! Still not sure about welsummers though ...

Pretty soon it should be obvious one way or another.

Here's a week 10 shot. Our cockerel's legs and feet are much, much, much bigger than the pullets, considerably more yellow, and then there's the much bigger comb and wattles and all those pretty pointy feathers.




Compare the legs on the Welsummer cockerel to the pullets on the left pictured below. The far left is one of the Welsummer pullets (much thinner, browner legs), and the other pullets are GLW and SBEL, all exactly the same age.
