Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre
https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center, and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Whilst I am not Yorkshire coop, i am from the same neck of the woods, so here's the UK thread links that DD mentioned.

Thanks everyone! Well long story but my wife saved a rooster from "dispatch". Now we have 3 ex bat rode islands to keep him company. They have a free range life now and a beautiful coop. That could house 30.

Nice of your wife to save the cockerel :D
I'm afraid mine get dispatched if I can't rehome them. There are just so many looking for new homes out there and I find dispatching them is better than them ending up in unscrupulous hands.

If you have a large enough coop I would certainly think about getting more hens for your boy. One cockerel can easily handle 10 hens. Getting more girls will make it easier on your 3 you have now. Having just three could result him in over breeding them which in some cases can cause them damage and injury.

Thanks for the advice. I had not considered that side of it. I think she is looking to re-home some more ex bats. The coop can house 30 birds so there is plenty of room.
