Hi there, I'm new to this site and just purchased my first day old chicks in March. I got six speckled sussex pullets (one might be a surprise rooster, waiting to see if it crows). So far they have been wonderful birds. They forage all day long and duck under bushes when they feel threatened. They're about 13 weeks old now and their faces are starting to turn red.

I bought a chicken tractor when they were still in the brooder. It recommends 5-7 birds but is probably better suited for three full grown hens. We are working on converting a used children's playhouse into a larger coop and I'm very excited to finish!

:frow Hi, and welcome to BYC!!

Speckled Sussex are wonderful birds :) great choice.
Oh what a creative idea for a coop! It looks great so far!

Nice coop!
I don't know the dimensions of your coop, but I agree that the 2 sq. ft. per chicken is too small. The good people on this site convinced me that 4 sq. ft. per chicken is better. I had to expand my coop... totally worth it though.

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. The Coop section and "Coops and Runs" forum should give you some ideas for your coop plans and its great that you have experience of keeping chickens already, so you know what kind of set up will suit you.

All the best
