I am posting this in hopes that no animals will get sick or die due to heat related issues.
I'm not trying to preach just get animal owners into " heat mode". This is more aimed at those in urban areas with small lots. But we all can use this.

Please remember to provide adequate shade, a lot of watering stations for your beloved pets. I just cringe this time of year when I hear someone say," yeah I just lost some chickens during this heat, oh well it's just a chicken - I'll go get another."

My neighbor has said this to me a few times so I just stopped asking her how her girls are during a heat spell. PLEASE DONT BE THIS KIND Of ANIMAL OWNER!!!

A couple of blocks of ice placed under your favorite chicken bushes just after you water the areas under those bushes can create cooling areas .

You can take an large - old Pyrex dishes fill them with water , place them in shaded areas, and add large chunks of ice, this will provide constant cool water , just remember to check half way thru the day and replenish as necessary.

You can string misters between two trees or bushes about 3-4 feet off the ground and hook them up to a hose, you don't have to turn the hose on but a touch for the water pressure will build quite quickly. I get my pvc misters from Home Depot and they Have lasted me 6 years.

A small fan placed in a coop or a larger one in a barn at night can aid your babes to keep cool. We all have a hard time sleeping when it's hot.

Keeping a small fenced area in your house on linoleum can be a cooling area for those who do get sick. Don't use your garage its too hot.

Remember when you decide to add an animal to your family you should be ALL in with their care. So let's do all we can for our babes.

Thank you for reading my rant! I will add pics of what I've done.

Some other ideas I use the bottom part of a screen door at night in place of the large wood door to allow air to move freely at night.

You can also place umbrellas around your yard or the coop for added shade.
