Welcome to BYC!

That appears to be feather loss due to a broody hen's instinct to pluck her breast.

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. I agree with QM. You may wish to check out the "Hatch-a-long" forum and theres also a "broody hen" thread (I think). - just enter into the search box and they will pop up.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre

http://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center, and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread  as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - http://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you

All the best

Do you have a rooster? If no, her eggs are infertile and will never hatch. Is she sitting on eggs in the nest box? If you could post a photo we could determine what she is up too.

Welcome to BYC :frow That looks like broody chest plucking. If she's sitting on those eggs in the pic. Perfectly normal, if a bit alarming!

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele
