So I hatched a bunch of chickens this spring. (Welsummer, Delaware, Moran, Amerucanas, Olive Eggers, and Silkies.) Now comes the hard part...selling the Roos then wielding down the hens to what we will keep.
So here is my question. At 5 weeks of age, if they have very red and large combs is that a sure sign of a roo? I have at least one of each breed that has red combs at this age and want to get rid of them sooner rather than later to save on feed, but I don't want to accidentally give away hens.
Thoughts? Here are a few picks of the obvious (or I think obvious) Roos.
