Cockerel. Roosters aren't really much slimmer than hens but they are generally taller, which can give them a slimmer appearance. A lot depends on the breed and individual chicken.

Mine are both "round" lol but there is a big difference in size. This one is much smaller
That much comb and wattle at only 8 wks is definitely a cockeral.
yeah, that makes sense. thank you! he/she isn't really too much taller then my others when she/he stands up all the way. How long do you have to normally wait until you really know?
Depends on the chicken. Some are early, some are later. You can usually be certain by two-three months old. I am almost 100% sure you have a cockerel. Barred Rock males have lighter barring and his comb and wattles are too developed and red at his age to be a pullet. Soon he will start getting in his hackle, saddle and sickle feathers. Sorry.
**** it!well thank you so much for your help. that really helps and makes a lot of sense with his combs and waddles. I love barred rocks though, so I might just have to get another one and hope for the best!!! thank you again!
No problem! I hope you can find this one a good home and if you get another it turns out to be a nice pullet!
do have one more question if you can help. Now that I have to give this one away, I did some research and i'm planning to get a hen that is already laying, and she will be a barred rock. BUT with my other 4 chickens being only 2 months old, will that be a bad combo? or is there a way i can introduce it so that it works out?
