Chick Won't Hold Her Head Up! Wry Neck? Emergency! Please Help!

I went to check on my broody and her chicks this afternoon, and I found one chick outside of the chicken house where my broody is sitting. The chick was crying, and when I put it next to its mother it stumbled around, almost as if it's drunk. I brought it inside, and now it's under a heat lamp, but it's still stumbling around and it's started to put its in between its legs as if to try clean its belly, but it doesn't. Sometimes it will put its head so far under its belly that it will literally do a somersault. It's still acting alert though, and when I brought it away from the heat lamp it began holding its head way straighter. The heat lamp wasn't to hot though, so I'm not sure why taking it away seemed to help. Also, the chick is only two days old and was hatched by a broody. When it did hatch, it hatch healthily and the membrane looked healthy.

I can upload pictures if you need them as well, and if you have questions just ask.

Please answer soon and thanks in advance,

-TwinsLoveChicks

Since wry neck is a vitamin E deficiency, try giving your baby straight vitamin E capsules, Nutri-drench, Rooster Booster electrolytes, probiotics, and vitamins mix, or even molasses. Also, it's a good idea to give her extra protein, like scrambled eggs or yogurt. There's a good chance that it will get better! ☺

Thank you for answering!

I don't have the Rooster Booster kind, but I'll try the electrolytes I have anyway, and maybe some yogurt. Also, do you think it might be a neurological problem?

Thanks! :)

P.S. Would you like me to upload pictures?

You're welcome! :) Sure sounds like wry neck to me given what my Silver Penciled Wyandotte bantam, Dakota, went through. One day, I noticed her like this:

Look familiar? Here she is more recently after treatment. :D

You could post pictures if you want, I suppose. :)

So it turns out I don't have electrolytes or yogurt, but I gave her some molasses and put a tiny bit of sugar in her water, and I think it helped! She seems better and hasn't done any somersaults for a while now! :yesss:  She still holds her head at a downward angle, but it's a lot better. Thank you for posting pics. Now I'm positive that she's got wry neck. I'm so glad your girl is better, and I hope little "Elf" does just as well!

Thanks! :)

Here's a picture of little Elf! She's a lot better and hasn't done a somersault in a while! :yesss:

(She's the one in the front, in my brooder full of special needs chicks. :))

Thank you for all your help! I'll keep you updated. :)
