Hi, I've checked around in the existing threads, but didn't find the answer to my question. We've had a couple weeks of unrelenting rain. We have 2 pens in a relatively shady area. We put them there because it gets so hot in Central Texas in the summer time, we wanted to keep them as shaded as possible. The rains have stopped finally, but the pens have not dried out yet, and today, I see that there is mold starting to grow on the ground. My question is, can lye be used without harming the chickens? I've seen it done for calves, but I don't know anything about how chickens would be affected. For the calf pens, I've seen them put the lye down and then cover it with hay to control coccidiosis (not sure it's spelled correctly). Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
