Hi, I am looking at the Polish offered by different hatcheries, year by year, hatchery by hatchery. Looks like I might have time left this summer to get Polish from Ideal, but have to choose wisely since I have burnt through most of my "discretionary funds" for this chicken year.

You can help me out a lot by posting pictures of birds you have gotten from Ideal! I would truly, truly appreciate it. Please mention what year the photo or the chicken is from if you will. Looking for pictures of Golden laced, Buff laced, or Silver laced please. No plans to buy white cresteds in 2016.

Chick pictures or adult pictures or anything in between! Even shipping box pictures.

Hoping someone will help me out :)

I have particular features I am looking for and they are hard to describe... a picture is worth a thousand words.

Thank you all!!!
Every photo appreciated!!

I will continue to cross my fingers and hope for a response.

Or is this not how BYC works anymore?

Unfortunately I have a slow connection and a slower web browser, and it is bound to crash if I try to comb through hundreds of pages of posts looking for relevent photos. I did find this post, on another thread, after a few agonizing minutes waiting for pages to reload

These chicks came from an "assorted polish" bin at the local feed store. Does anybody know what colors they will turn out? I know they buy their chicks from Ideal. Thanks!
Doesn't look like any of the breeds I was looking for, but it does give me pause, as they look like disappointing quality. I was hoping for better. Crevecoeurs and Houdans from Ideal are really impressive quality ... but for example, the white crested black Polish chick in the top left corner is pretty bad. Speaking as someone with some experience of WC Black Polish.

I too have horrible service out here. I have pictures of those grown up. (Except the wcb, it didn't make it) I have 13 total polish from Ideal. I'll try to load pics. May have to wait for good service "in town" at work!

Day of arrival. Wc blues. Buff and silver laced. And black crested whites. I'm a newbie with chickens. They are friendly nice pets. But i think they do have flaws. Main one being missing toes! Lots of them....

I have lots of pics. I have had polish from my pet chicken and meyer hatchery as well if you want to see them.

Oh yay!! I picked exactly the right person to quote their post. Thank you for all the helpful pictures, love2lope21!

I would love to see pictures of Meyer's and of My Pet Chicken. Those are two I have not tried Polish from. I am faced with sort of a conundrum here, and it has to do with Privett Hatchery - who also supply the Polish for Welp's and for Stromberg's.

I got just a handful of Buff Laced Polish from Privett last year (2015), and they blew me away. They were rather slender and leggy but they seemed very true to breed type. Nice shape, nice markings.

In the same order, I got a few Silver Laced, and a big batch of Privett Houdans. I wanted the Houdans because I had gotten some quite nice Houdans from Privett in 2014. Just a few Houdans in my 2014 order, and about half of them were awful, nothing like a Houdan, but a handful were big and nice. Well, the big, new batch of 2015 Houdans were bizarre. In just one year, the product had changed significantly. The chicks were alarmingly small - 2014 the Houdans were big chicks - and there were no more of the nice quality looking ones. There were quite a few who grew into petite, gimpy adults this time, unlike 2014. What had happened?

This spring, my project was to try Ideal Houdans for the first time, and to get a better start of the Privett buff laced, since I had liked the 2015 ones so much. I should have learned something from my experience with Privett Houdans though. The Buff Laced I ended up with do not seem to be the same as the ones they sent last year. It hit me as soon as I opened the shipping box. Something about the head shape and the way the chicks stood. I saw them and immediately thought, "Oh, no."

I have come to the conclusion that Privett might buy batches of chicks in from other hatcheries, and add something different to its flocks every year. How else to explain the odd changes? The "good" Privett 2014 Houdans are looking a lot like my new Houdans from Ideal. (Which were big, dark, energetic chicks in the shipping box, and are remarkably uniform like they come from a well managed flock). I'll be in a better position to say for sure, when they are full grown.

Love2lope21, the body shape, the markings and the posture of your Buff Laced Polish boys from Ideal remind me strongly of some of these Buff Laced Privett chicks, I spent a lot of time yesterday looking at them and trying to figure out what has changed. I can't put my finger on it exactly. Is there some Ideal in this new batch of chicks? What was the secret ingredient in the chicks I liked so much last year? Sigh.

There aren't a huge number of hatcheries out there, and until recently most of my exploring has been Houdans, Crevecoeurs, and White Silkies. I would love to find out where the "nice" in my 3 nice Buff Laced Polish comes from. If not Ideal, it could be Meyer's, could be My Pet Chicken, Cackle, or McMurray. They all carry Buff Laced.
