Hi! I posted a few days ago and received a quick response about one of my Welsummers. Unfortunately the verdict of Roo... we can only have pullets. (residential living law). I thought I would give it a try and post my other once more and see if I can generate some additional input. The initial responder was unsure. There is a lot of the lighter color on the chest. It also has pretty eyeliner and a very defined V on its head. This chick is about 5 weeks old. Sweetest, cuddliest chick ever!
Thank you all!

Thanks for your input. I was really, REALLY hoping for a female. Welsummers are absolutely gorgeous and these are both so friendly. Just my luck I would get two Roos!

Welsummer pullets have a salmon chest, roosters have black chest.

The comb development and the black chest indicate you've got a roo. Sorry.

Thanks for your input! Looks like I might have to start searching for other Welsummers. We were given 6 chicks with a class. Our other two breeds were sexed as pullets and these were SR. I love this breed so much I don't want to just find them homes and not replace!

I am leaning towards cockerel.

If you get a good line of Welsummers, they are autosexing.

As chicks, the females will have a clear, dark, head triangle with deep eyeliner. The males will have a fuzzier looking head color and faint or non-existent eyeliner.

Poorly kept lines and hatchery quality blur those distinctions, but a well bred Welsummer is clear from hatch as to gender. Most times you can tell with feed store quality.
