Hi folks,

Thanks to the success of these contests and a suggestion from a participant, I've decided to open them to ducks as well as chickens!

Please submit three photos maximum, bonus points for a clever caption, and I will judge the winners on July 17th (last week of my winter break).

The winner will get a pencil sketch of their entry, examples of my drawings can be seen on previous chook contest threads.

Looking forward to your pictures. Have fun!

We have recently been hatching chicks (for the first time) and it's been the best experience ever. I've taken lots of pictures - it's so hard to choose 3! Who doesn't love showing off their beautiful chickens?!

Hatching (and mothering) is hard work!
This is my wonderful, darling Pixie (OEGB) and her first two babies having a rest. The brighter yellow and grey one hatched at the same time as my new niece was born, so we were very sad when he revealed himself to be a boy.

"Tell me I'm beautiful" (just don't mention the poop on the face)!
This is our adorable Peep at 9 days old (Pekin/Cochin Bantam) who we were very glad turned into a very beautiful pullet. Peep always peeped loudly when we picked her up and she still does, yet she is very friendly.

"The camera loves me"!
This is Disco at almost 2 weeks old (Pekin/Cochin Bantam) who has, since hatching, been completely fearless. I have so many pictures of Disco that I didn't need the zoom for. Disco was right there, in your face, waiting to jump out and see us (and she's still exactly the same at the age of 10 weeks). I was convinced Disco was a boy because of this fearlessness. Thankfully Disco is a pullet, but she is still fearless, bossing the bigger chicks around and not letting them pick on her sisters.

Wooow those pictures are amazing! You have some nice skills there. And of course the birds are adorable too :love Nice work on the hatch! These pics are some of the best I've seen in all the contests I've done so far.

It helps to have willing subjects and a new camera to experiment with. I love the portrait mode that makes the background fuzzy (so I can't take too much credit). In our last hatch we had Disco and her sister Calypso who loved coming up to see us, but their other two sisters were scared of the camera and shy of us, always hiding behind their mother, so I don't have many pictures of them as babies (and one was my long awaited booted bantam who was so cute and tiny, so the kids favourite).

I hope you get some more entries soon. I love seeing everybody's birds.

I will defiantly enter! As soon as I figure out how to make photos bigger... :)

Figured it out! :D

I love that camera mode too! I only have a lowly phone though so the camera is not very fancy. I just try and fiddle around with the focus :p
Yeah chick photos are so hard! We've had three lots of chicks (store bought not hatched) and very very few good photos
