I recently bought 3 ducklings to pop under my broody hen-it worked amazingly well and she took to them right away and has been a great momma.
I am facing a bit of a problem now as they are currently in my house and when I want to move them to the big pen with the others I am unsure about how to keep the food separate. I have layers pellets in a metal container that only the big birds can operate to discourage rats-this worked great but I now have chick crumbs for the ducklings which i need to keep out for them. Does anyone have any tips for how best to do this? I don't really want to keep them in my house until they are ready to go on the layers pellets.
I can't really leave food out for them because the rats will start coming in again-the last thing i want!
So I was wondering if the big birds could maybe all eat the chick crumbs as well for a few weeks-not ideal I know but i could put it all in the big metal container and they could all eat out of that (ducklings when momma hen eats as they follow her everywhere).
Another thing is-I have got chick crumbs but read you need a supplement to add to it- niacin? Where can i get this from-the place we bought the chick crumbs from never mentioned it. I was given some crumbs with the ducklings when i bought them but just ran out of that.
