I have a pair of Cayugas and am interesting in using pool water in the garden. I understand there is a good chance they carry Salmonella and was wondering if anybody had tips on mitigating the risk.

Also I have a 1 year old son, and the ducks are in the backyard. Should I fence off a section? He needs to be able to play and fall down and all that good kid stuff.

Thanks!

I just read another article entitled Duck Poop Compost, it's a little farther down from yours. Have a read, it says go ahead and use it. I'm new to ducks too, so thanks for posting. I was wondering the same thing.

Use on the soil directly, not the plants.
Wash veggies before eating.
And yeah, I'd fence off a duck free area so your kid can play and remain duck poop free
