Raising Pigeons

I have so many breeds right now I really need to narrow it down...I have frillbacks, priests, turbits, modenas, chinese owls, rollers, scandaroons, a lahore, a capuchine, an indian fantail, and a capuchine x fantail. Plus, I'm getting komorner tumblers later this month

Thank you kindly , Ma'am!

I just got started with pigeons last Labor Day weekend, and bought 20 young birds. They have hatched 7 already, and most are still too young to lay.
At this rate, I'll be buried under a pile of pigeons by next Labor Day

Wow, you got 7 squeakers already. I'm so jealous but I did just start so hopefully in a couple of weeks I will get my first ones.

It should have been 8, but one egg got broken just before it hatched. I alos had another group of 3 wild pigeons housed seperately that layed 6 eggs so far, but evidently there were no males in the group. I put a few of my King pigeons in with them, and hopefully in a few weeks they will be hatching some also

Well all this talk about them being addictive just like chickens doesn't scare me off. I have over 200 hundred chickens and most are pure so they have to be kept seperated. I'm not scared, I have the room and the time for them so I'm just going to enjoy them no matter how many I end up with. lol Thanks for the warning anyway but I had kinda already figured it out. lol They are way cool birds.

I started with archangels and picked up a pair of house pigeons last year. I'd get more breeds if I had room for them.

Deerman i had some highfliers about 25 of them had them 3 months decided i was going to try flying them.
Took them out in a small cage and opened the top nothing so i dumped them out again nothing.

They just walked around in the yard like a bunch of chickens

I finally sold them and started buying my Shield owls.

I did have a Blue Bar Homer summer before last my first pigeon I really loved that bird.

I would let homey out and he would fly and it was so beautiful his blue wings looked 10 feet wide. He would come back to his little pen i had and we would do that every afternoon.
One Day he just went over the trees and i never saw him again i really missed him

The woman I bought mine from rescued a single wounded pigeon several years ago. The week before I picked up my 20, she had SOLD 100 birds, and still had about 100 birds AFTER I got mine.

They are addictive. I've already been looking at how to convert some of the old barns on the farm into coops for different birds.
