What do you do when your chicken has a lash egg? Sweet bird. She was feeling a bit under the weather then was back to her spunky self (flying at the feed scoop etc), but later laid a very nasty egg we assume was a lash egg. She seems fine now, but still not back to her normal egg (not as frequent and today a little extra structure plus she seems to have laid it on the ground). I have pulled her eggs, but am not sure what to expect or do with her. Advice appreciated. She is a year old feedstore EE with a light brown egg.
 
Lash eggs are usually a sign of salpingitis or infection of the reproductive tract that usually is a result of E.coli or other colon bacteria spreading up the oviduct. She may go on to have egg yolk peritonitis. There isn't a lot of success with antibiotic treatment. I would just let her live out her life, which could be a ccouple more years. Her eggs should be fine to eat, but she may less and less. You could always consult a vet about treatment, but I would do some reading about salpingitis. Yeah we had read that antibiotics weren't worth it, but a lot of people said the bird dies pretty much always. Wasn't sure if we should cull her or if she is a survivor
