Best egg layer?

My best layer is the california white, which I got from Hoover's Hatchery. My 3 lay every day without fail. Next would be the SLW or BR. My EE just started to lay last week, but seem to be doing a great job on their own.

What is a CA White? A Leghorn of some sort?

Our best are our golden Comets (red sex-links). We bought them last year and they laid an egg a day, for the most part, for 18 months straight. Big ol' extra extra large, too! They are just now molting for the first time and have gone off schedule. We still get an egg or two each day from the 3 hens. It seems to be getting back to normal now that their molt is nearing completion.

They are super friendly birds, too. They love to be petted and handled.

I have 4 hens that are laying at the present time. A silver lace wyndott, a white rock, a partiage rock and cochin. The white rock and the wyndott are the most consitant layers. I have Golden Comets that are 12 weeks old. I have been told that they are excellant layers. I hope to find out in the next 2 months.

Do check out the site recommended by serendipity22. If you want more eggs the sex link are probably better. But if you are looking to enhance the beauty of your flock, the site is pretty good.

Is there much difference in the different sexlinks (ie: is the black sex link better than the red or gold sex link?) And, is a "black star" the same as a "black sex link"?

I got my first sexlinks... two black sex links from Ideal... and they are laying HUGE eggs for pullets. I would say they are easily large if not X-large and this is only the first week they are laying. I was going to add some more sexlinks and I had wanted to put some variety with red or gold, but didn't know if the different types had different attributes.

Since we are getting more chickens here soon we made picking up a book to study about chickens a homeschool project. The book we are using says that:

The leghorns are the best white egg layers.

and

The Rhode Island Reds are the best brown egg layers.

But

All in all the leghorns are the best egg layers.

It said that those 2 chickens are capable of laying something like 280 eggs each a year.

Sex link chicken are my best layers as well as my black australorps. My buff girls do well but then make better mommas than consistent layers.
