Too bad you weren't also a member of the Standard- sized Australorp Society here. I would take you up on your offer then, because I'm looking for some more of those.

It has been really quiet  in here lately! I thought that I would take some updated pics of the ayam cemani chicks :) They're getting big fast! In the brooder with them are a few CCL chicks, a BCM and a wheaten Marans x RIR

I had to go back in my pm's and look to see when CJ actually sent them to me to figure it out lol. It looks like they're only 6 weeks old. I was thinking that they were older.

Thank you - gives me an idea on feathering, since mine are 3 weeks old now. I have 4 left since I ended up selling one chick as a pet along with two of my mutts.  It's going to be spoiled yard candy. :)

I'm still figuring out this chicken stuff, but loving almost every minute of it 😎👍

Usually with large combed breeds, I can tell sex by 4-5 weeks because the combs start turning pink and little wattles start showing. The Marans mix and BCM in the brooder are about 4 weeks old and I know for a fact that they're both boys. These Ayam cemani have me totally stumped though lol. I'm thinking that I either have all pullets or all cockerels. They all feathered in at the exact same rate and the combs all look about the same.

There's a range in comb size in my line still.  Not all the boys get big comb, like this one for example.

Without comb size or comb color as early indications, it's hard for me to tell gender.  I'm getting better, but the tell-tale sign still is the saddle and/or sickle feathers.

We could have a guessing game on the prize chicks.  I suspect all three leghorns are boys, but I haven't even tried guessing genders on the AC.
