I just mucked out the coop yesterday. It's their run which I lightly clean twice a year maintaining with a thin layer of pine shavings when it gets icky. I got into the back corners yesterday and since I figured it to be the most composted I used it around the base of my tomatoes, peppers and squash... but it smelled pretty ripe! I topped the smelly stuff with dried leaves to keep the smell down. I usually only add the deep litter stuff to my existing compost pile so now I'm worried it will be too strong. We're very dry here too.
