Coop size

Sorry to bother everyone, my wife and I, were given 5 chicks from a friend, ome pf hhos hens did not want them after she hatted them. They were 3 days old when we got them and now they are almost 2 weeks.
Anyway, while they are in thehouse I am working on getting them a coop. I am not sure what size i need for the 5 of them. Could someone please take a look at this one and tell me what they think please.

You really should start your own thread but that will never work for 5 chickens. It's entirely too small. Approximately a 20 sq.ft coop and 50 sq.ft. run will be required for your 5.

The house part of that is only 17" x 43"...about enough square footage for one regular size chicken, which means not good for chickens at all since you wouldn't/shouldn't have a lone chicken.

What is the max. anyone would suggest in a coop that is 4X8? It is 4' high. We are inheriting 15 chickens. At first They told me no more than 10. So I'm hoping I have enough room. The outside area is quite large and weather permitting they will free range (Massachusetts). Any opinions? They are RI Reds and NH/RI Red mix. They have all been roosting together so are used to each other for the most part. Thanks

The generally accepted number for coops is 4 sq.ft. per bird so 8 would be the max. I can't imagine that 15 in that size coop would work out very well.

Oh boy, well they will have lots of outside time. My husband will be building a chicken tractor that we can use in the event that they become discontent. They originally told us about 6 were coming. Then they changed it to 10. Then it became 15.
