Let's just say Peepers is a little, well, different.

I got Peepers along with 5 other keets a month ago. All the other keets moved around like one organism (shudder) except for Peepers. Peepers would be off in one corner of the brooder doing his/her own thing.

While the other keets were practicing flight (fluttering around, landing on top of the waterer), Peepers would be wandering around doing his/her own thing.

When they perched on the branch I put in the brooder, guess what Peepers was doing? If you guessed wandering around in his/her own world, you are correct.

Turns out Peepers feet are deformed.

That explains the lack of perching, but not the lack of attempted flight. While the others got wilder by the day, causing me to put a heavy object on the lid of the brooder, Peepers remained calm and strangely tame.

When they were old enough I put the others outside and left Peepers and another keet in the brooder. The other keet became frantic, crying out for the others and throwing itself against the sides of the brooder. Put that keet out with the others and Peepers has been by himself for over a week with no signs of even noticing the absence of the other keets.

He/She has this obsessive need to burrow under things. A towel at night,

my chin, arm or into my side during the day. I went out and bought this bird a small teddy bear yesterday and he spent msot of the day cuddling and "talking" to it.

He/She can walk, fly (short distance), and perch on a wide surface (my arm instead of a finger), but would rather be carried around, pressed against some part of me. Health wise, he/she is ok. Eating, drinking and pooping like normal.

If this bird was a human child I think he/she would be diagnosed with some form of Autism.

You, my friend, have acquired a pet rather than livestock with this one. Consider yourself blessed with good fortune and love the stuffing out of that little one.

I love him/her dearly, I'm just trying to figure out how/what size habitat to make my for my feathered friend. I'm thinking of getting the biggest play pen I can find an turning it into his/her little house.

Right now I'm working on getting him/her used to the dreaded bird diaper.
