Throughout the past 4 years of having chickens, we've had several cats that will occasionally chase the chickens, but nothing very bad. A stray cat showed up a week or two ago, and has decided to set up shop here. Orignally, I was fine with this as he is cute, friendly, and gets along with the other cats. However, he has recently started to chase the chickens. He doesn't attack them - just stalks and pounces. I think he likes the squawking and flapping. My poor chickens are really stressed out/tense now. (My drake started chasing them too...Ugh!) Is there anyway I can teach the cat to not chase them?

I do, one that has protected his girls from a dog attack. But, I have 43 hens, 1 rooster, and 6 acres. He can't be everywhere at once, unfortunately.

I wondered if I'd be able to train him out of it. I was weeding outside when he decided to chase one, and I threw my shoe at him. He didn't appreciate that.

Yes, cats are smart....Why they can live on their own and go wild.
He knows when your mad...Keep giving the cat heck...It will tire of your game. I dont care if she spooks them, keeps the ready for a real threat.
