My first egg from spring chicks. It must have come from an Easter egger, although I thought they laid later. I have leghorns and a black star I was expecting to be first. They are 17.5 weeks old.

It does seem early... do you have a pic of your Easter egger? Has she been singing the egg song, squatting, etc? Bright comb? Any signs of first egg? I'm not sure but that is pretty early for a EE.

I'll get a picture of my easter eggers this evening. I have one that is squatting but the combs and waddles on all seem only pink and under developed. But the egg is definately blue-green tinted. So it must have come from one of them, right?

Yes it would have to come from one I would think unless on of your other birds is not a pure breed maybe mixed with a EE or something I really don't no. If the EEs comb are not red and don't act like they are laying I have no idea cause that is very early for a EE. Maybe if possible watch them and see if one goes in the nest box or where ever they lay at. If not you could video tape them or something if you are not home. Good luck!

I'm new to this forum and I can't figure out how to post. Anyways I just bought a new year old rooster home this morning and he escaped his pen I put him in to get acquainted. My other established rooster chased him away and now he us missing. We did spot him in some brush and tried to catch him but had no luck. My question is will he come back or did I just let 25.00 fly out the coop?

Here she is. This is Willow. I caught her in the nesting boxes yesterday and she gave me a second egg today! I'm super excited but still surprised that I have an easter egger start laying just shy of 18 weeks. She really does not look red or more developed than my other 2 that are the same age, but I'm not complaining. Do easter eggers usually look like this when they start laying?

Mine never did they always had bright red combs. She could be getting to much lighting which is causing her to lay early. Maybe someone else can help. ?!... she is a beautiful bird you've got there but I can't help much. Hopefully someone else can help
Good luck! :)

I have had several EEs lay at 18 weeks & many other breeds that people on here claim don't lay until 30 weeks !! Each chicken is different & each breed is different. Way too much generalizing on this forum. Yes it is early for your EE to lay, but it is not unheard of. Chickens are really simple. Feed them well, give them plenty of water, space & light. No magic or umpteen things that have to be done. Beautiful egg by the way, enjoy!
