Hello! I'm Bee, long time lurker, first time chicken mom. This website has been a fantastic resource as I read up on raising chickens over the years, so I'm excited to finally join the forum :)

I received my clutch of day old chicks on May 31st, at 4 weeks old they're just about entering their awkward teenage phase. The flock currently consists of 10 red sex-link pullets, 10 brahmas (4 light, 4 buff, 2 dark,) 10 EEs, 1 silkie, and 1 silkie-x. They are hatchery chicks so their lineage is questionable however, but no matter, as a first timer all I was looking for was variety in my laying hens. They're a colourful bunch!

Look forward to becoming part of the community!

Hi Bee;

Great to have you join us at BYC. I am raising my first flock too. The learning curve has been pretty steep but totally worth it. Fortunately my family has a sense of humour about this - it was supposed to be MY project but it has become an all-hands on deck kind of project. My chickens are about 7 weeks old and they are getting big!! I didn't go for variety, they are all Red Sussex Crosses. So far I have been happy with behaviour - no serious bullying - although the boys are starting to get a wee bit stroppy with each other.

Hi :welcome Bee

Glad you could join us here on BYC :frow What a cute box of chicks!! Those are some lovely breeds you have there and you seem to be really enjoying them. That awkward teenage look can be rather odd for them! Wishing you the very best of luck with them in the future and enjoy BYC :frow
