Rocky - my handsome 18 week old roo (mixed breed) is chasing several of my hens. He is not getting "friendly", he is out for feathers and blood. I have had to chase him down to stop it several times.

Any suggestions? I am thinking it is very likely just hormones, but I will not be giving him too many more opportunities. Oh I should have calls this post "Trouble may go to to the Table!"
Thanks - Kim

I wound first figure out a way to separate him from the flock but still within view. How old are the hens? Wait until the pullets reach laying age to try a reintroduction. This worked for me once... temporarily....then trouble went to the table. Good luck !

I was going to keep a Rooster again this year...My husband put an end to that this morning. We are hauling all the Cockerels to the Farm back in Saskatchewan on Friday. 12 Cockerels on a 7 hour road trip.
I had a Rooster last year that started attacking me every time I went in to collect my eggs. So it was Sometimes three times a day.
Bugger is no longer here. Unless your dream is to raise chicks? No need for a Rooster.

Only polite cockrels stay on here. I always have roosters in my flock, and as the little guys grow, I watch them and make selections. The next spring when their hormones really spike, more decisions happen. Human aggressive cockrels taste great, and so do boys who are too rough on the pullets or hens. Some feather loss may happen, but never wounds! When I have nice excess roosters, I try to rehome them. Mary
