I just had a chicken attacked by a raccoon, she can walk , and stand, but her eyes are sealed shut. Could she be blind, or just have swollen eyes? She wasn't bit , and she ran out of our coop during the attack. Please help ..

They are not swollen anymore, but this morning I picked her up and her one eye was open and she was looking at me the other one vist has a thick yellow crust over it but you can tell she was wants to open it. We just keep using water and hydrogen peroxide to clean it

I wouldn't use hydrogen peroxide in the eye. Just use a paper towel with warm water and dab it, or use a salt water solution and then open it.

This. Peroxide is not a great choice. KindaFarmGirl's advice stands as the best option. Let us know how it goes. Please note that coon will come back so I do hope you are taking steps to protect your birds. No guarantee you will get this lucky next time.

You never stated anywhere if you tried KindaFarmGirl's treatment or not. Do so. Notice the part at the end where she tells YOU to open the eyelid.

You are also going to have to repeat the cleaning and opening of the eye until she can keep it open by herself. Clean both eyes daily with a saline solution until they look clean. Make sure she is getting food and water, and it might be wise to isolate her within sight and sound of the other chickens for a little bit.

I personally leave them alone. There's a reason the eyes get sealed shut, they are healing under those lids, when they are ready the eyes will open. Don't rush them or damage the eyes by squirting stuff in them or trying to clean them, they are either damaged beyond repair or they will heal. Chickens have really good healing abilities if just allowed to do so. Keep it quiet and give it time. That's what I would do.

Thank you, she's doing very well, both eyes are open and she's back to eating and drinking. She perks up when she hears and sees the other chickens we have so , I think she will be okay, thank you for the help!
