Hi All,
I am new to chickens but have fallen in love with my little flock! I got 4 chicks that were only a day old in April. They are doing great and have really adjusted well to the coop and the run. Recently I added 6 more young hens that were 2 weeks older than the originals. So far the integration has gone pretty smooth. The only problem I am having is the new chickens won't go in the coop at night to sleep, they are sleeping on a roosting pole in the run. Will it just take time for them to warm up to sleeping in the coop or is there something I can do to get them to go to bed? Thanks for the advise!

and congrats on your new chickens! To get them to go inside, you can just throw a little scratch (if you have any. Corn, oats, or any other treats will work) into the coop when you want them to go inside. If you do this consistently for a week or two, it should develop into a habit, and they'll just go into the coop when it gets dark out without you having to give them a reward. Good luck, and thanks for joining us here on BYC!

Hi and welcome to BYC. You could add a light source in the coop to encourage them to go to the coop at dusk (then close the coop door and turn the light off).

Good luck
