Sand in the coop?

I am loving using construction grade sand in our coop-dry in bags from Home Depot indoors near the concrete materials...watchout for sand with dry cement mixed in-dont get that! I got 6 bags that had leaked a little for .50 cents each :)
I sprinkle pdz ontop and have no smell. I put on rubber gloves and hand pick out the poo and feathers every day, put in small plastic bucket lined with plastic grocery bag every 2 days at most. 4x8 coop, 4 hens...literally takes 2 minutes. Stays dry, works great-like a big cat box. I use pine shavings in the nesting box only for lil bit of cushion. My experience with shavings in the coop was too messy for my living situation in town.
I got play sand a few yrs ago--wrong. It wasnt all totally dry when i put it on coop, and it got stinky. The trick seems to be using dry sand-construction grade-the size of grains of sand are varied not all the same...work great for me.
