Tips on telling hens from toms?

Mine turned out to be a hen. And one of my new hens gobbles. She displays, too, but that didn't surprise me. The very high pitched gobble, on the other hand, did very much surprise me. Hens can be VERY confusing

I have noticed the snood is consistently larger on the toms. The caruncles develop earlier on the toms too. Not that it is a sure way to tell at a young age, it does give insight as to what the gender of the poults are.
