Help! Duck trying to Hatch!

PLEASE HELP!!! This is our second time trying to hatch duck eggs and the first batch all of them never made. This guy is from the second batch and out of four he's the only one who made it. We don't know what we are doing. Learning as we go.... but we have no idea what this is on him! It's a cross between a runner and Rouen.

So my little baby has finally come out and came out with this huge bulge on his belly! Is this a bad sign? It's trying to move around and still talks to me, but I'm worried with this on him.

It looks like the yolk sac did not absorb. I'm too inexperienced to know if they can absorb after they've hatched. Waiting for someone who is experienced to find out if this is survivable.

Yes the yolk can be absorbed after hatching but that is very rare. Usually it is all done while the duckling is hatching. This little guy seems to have come out of the egg awfully fast. He is all wet and no absorbtion that I can see with the yolk.

It looks like he did not hatch himself out of the shell. The heads are dry when the last remaining areas come free of the shell.

Did you remove the shell when it starting pipping? I have seen a few ducklings look like this but that is because they were not left to hatch on their own. After about 12 hours, once the duckling has pecked through the shell, it is time to start looking and checking often to make sure all is well. The first few hours after pipping, it is the time taken to absorb the yolk and also for the blood in the veins to go into the duckling. This gets all done while the little guy rests between spurts of pecking to get out of the shell.
