Watery poop

My 20 week sussex has been having watery poops. Sometimes nothing but water sometimes with solids but no blood or worms. Very vocal and active bird even started squating for me about two weeks ago. She eats and has filled out very well. I know its summer and birds will use watery poops to cool down but the weather has not been hot or even warm this year. Im thinking the balance is off and needs probiotics. Any input would be great.

Richard- I am also curious as to the answers to Wyorp's questions. That would be the first thing we'd look at.

Wyorp-(not sure if you knew..) state of WV dept of Ag comes out and will screen a flock for free. They run fecal float, coccidiosis, mycoplasma (all strains), avian flu, worms, and more. Got results back in about 2 weeks. They were supposed to do like 5 chickens, the vet tech had a bunch of swabs on hand so we just did the whole flock. Not sure if other state Ag departments do this or not, but we've been telling all of our chicken friends in WV to have their flocks screened (if your flock is cleared they give you an NPIP cert!) We've been telling all of our out of state friends to check with their State Ag depts to see if they offer the same. Plus the price is right! They come to you and run analysis free!

I feed beaver brand (local PNW brand) all purpose feed 18% protein. Then BOSS a few times a week, a palm full for 3 birds. I started probiotics in the water yesterday, didnt see any watery poops this morning, will check again when I get home. If there are still issues come later this week I will contact one of the local avian vets. Wa state ag dept does not test unless there is a kill off.

The probiotics is a good idea.
Even if we think it's not that hot, some chickens may overheat, not saying that's what it is, but she may be drinking a bit more than the others.
Just keep any eye on her. Most vets can take a sample you give them to test for worms, bacteria, etc., but an avian vet will be a plus if you have one

Also, FWIW, when your girls start to lay, provide some oyster shell free choice for extra calcium. I feed an "all flock" high protein feed as well, and it doesn't contain a lot of calcium, so I give my girls oyster shell, for calcium. Just in case you didn't know

Just an update, her poops are much more solid over the last two days after the probiotics. Thanks for the advice and input.
 
She seems to be doing alot better now. A watery poop here and there but after watching her she is a heavy drinker, much more then the other birds. Laid her first egg last night about 6ish.
 
Congratulations on the first egg!

I'm glad to hear she is doing better.

Since you notice she is a "heavy drinker" keep an eye on her. Check her crop periodically to make sure it is emptying (check at night for full crop, then in morning for empty crop). Excess water drinking is sometimes a sign that she may be trying to flush her crop, but in hot weather it's normal.
Just my thoughts.
 
I have been watching her crop because it seems to me she eats more then the other birds but come morning it is empty. But now im having issues with her laying. Seems she is just dropping them where ever. First egg in the run, second on the poop board, now third in the run again. The last two have been soft shell. The pic is an hour tell sunset with a full crop but i swear in the morning it is empty.
