August 2016 Hatch-A-Long

It was 42 this morning don't know how long it was down. How would I know if they need help?

Unless they were externally pipped, that is fine. Even if they are pipped, it isn't a death sentence. I candle mine throughout so called "lockdown" so I can keep track of how they are progressing. Just make sure your humidity and temps are good and you should be fine.

I'm very disappointed right now. I just went to candle the CLs. The two with saddle shaped airsacs are alive but it looks pretty wet in there so I'm very nervous. I almost didn't notice that the one with a normal air sac actually externally pipped. However, it looks like it drowned . I think it was very recent as I had checked them this morning and his body was not rigid yet. I could kick myself for not keeping a closer eye but I was trying to not mess with them since this is only day 19. I don't have much hope for the remaining two. I don't think I will sleep very well until they are out or I know they are gone.

I do open to get chicks out. I just have had better hatch rate when I dont open the incubator. I will be putting black sex link eggs in next week and will leave incubator closed till everyone hatches.

So I candled this morning on day 19 because I got home really late last night and was unable to candle on day 18. I think this chick is upside down in the egg because I'm almost positive I see a foot in the air cell. The picture is not that great but it looked more like a foot 10 minutes before I took this picture. What do you think? If it is malpositioned, what are it's chances of hatching successfully? Is there anything I can do?
