Our VERY FIRST EGG !! :)

How old were the hens when they started to lay? I would like an estimate for when mine start laying!

i don't remember the exact week # but maybe around 16-17 weeks ??

my family brought the hens home on 4/3/2016.. they are already this old

one of the hens started laying on 7/14/2016 .. the rest of them started laying around 2 weeks or so after i switched over to layer feed

I have the reverse problem. My little girls have taken themselves to the nesting boxes after watching the older girls however A first egg has been eaten. I know this from the amount of hens we have and just one left to start laying. Would she have eaten it herself? Would it have been fragile perhaps. Any advice on this? (The other 2 new layers I have are laying uniform eggs all-be-it smallish so I can ID them).

Thankyou.

i also have 2 eggs that were stepped/pecked at

remove the eggs as soon as you can will help

also try to leave golf balls in the nesting boxes.. it will help the layers know where to lay plus to train them not to peck at the eggs

if you remove the eggs shortly after laying and leaving only golf balls in there.. they will learn soon or later to not peck at anything circular in the nesting boxes..

you will have some hens that might turn broody if you leaves eggs or golf balls in the nesting boxes for too long..

but for my case.. water worked
