We began our new adventure this spring with two mixed breed adult hens. "Lovingly" named Red and Satan. (More on these later.) We then decided we wanted a "few" more younger pullets. We acquired a Dominique and two golden Sexlinks. A week or so later, I happened upon a very dirty, sad, neglected white Silkie. I had to save her. We have a Spangled Russian Orloff rooster named Sparkles, he's the second one we've had. Today, we bought 5 more Sexlinks. Oh yeah, we also let the mean hens, Devil and Red, hatch 5 chicks. So we're up to a grand total of 17 chickens. The two evil spawns of Satan took turns setting on the eggs. Neither would conceed the clutch. They have since gone absolutely crazy. They attack at random, cluck at all hours, are extemely noisy, and are driving me crazy. They are great setters though, so I'm not sure what to do with them!

Thanks for the kind welcome! The mommas aren't broody, at least not in the tradtional sense. They just do bizarre stuff and are very mean to the others. They're not mean to me or the rest of the family. We've maintained our alpha status so far. They attack the rooster. They scream all day. They set ambush traps for the others. It's very weird.
