i need advise with mites

Purchase mite powder from you local store cover the whole coop with it especially the corners and perches. And ideally catch your chickens and mite powder them as well. I coated my chicken coop with creosote it releases a scent that the mites don't like killing them including their eggs. If you are going to creosote your coop which I highly recommend make sure you get EVERYTHING even the little gaps in the wood as that's where the tend to be hiding.

I used Diatemaceous Earth when my broody hen got mites. It works great ! Just put some on them if you can and kind of ruffle it into their feathers plus what
@ADuckOnQuack
said. I put powder in their favorite dust bathing spots too because then they virtually do it themselves ! :) I actually got to witness a mite being killed by this stuff and its basically automatic. It's great.

The way Diatomaceous works is quite unique. It's like broken glass to the mites when they crawl over it it puctures their skin and they dehydrate and die.
Diatom as it's called for short, is a prehistoric seashell which is found in CHILE of all places.
Apparently CHILE was under water once upon a time. I find it very effective for not nits and
surprise, surprise, it is also great for worming. If you soak some pellets in water and mix in
a couple of table spoons of diatom and some cooked (with their skins on) potatoes.
Human beings actually use Diatom powder for IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME.
It is quite expensive here in Scotland about $15 a pound weight. Regards Bill

About DE; inhaling it is also very bad for lungs, yours and the chickens'. Also, mining it has not been good for the environment down there. It will help with mites, but the permethrin powder or spray works much better. Mary

I picked up a tub of the red mite powder yesterday for £10. And like lydiagirl99 said also putting it in there dust baths does the job too saving you picking them all up and turning them upside down.

400

This along side coating the entire house in creosote will kill 99.9% of mites.

Yeah I heard something about that they banned it or something but we still had tons of it in the shed, I don't know if it's available in elenita country but I thought I'd share what we used
