My chicks are panicking due to hunger (they seem to be quite picky)

Their behavior is really fine, but they have obvious signs of hunger, because they run around like crazy looking for something to eat. As I've mentioned in another thread, I ran out of chicken feed and no1 sells any in my town, and I'm still doing research where I could find more. Feeding them other grains and eggs is an ok solution, but they don't touch anything much but eggs, and so I'm afraid they're not getting enough nutrients and a balanced diet. And believe it or not, they wouldn't even touch the clean sand i got for them! Any suggestions for picky eaters?

I've never heard of a picky chicken. Once saw a black giant hen kill a rat and swallow it whole. But mealworms, soldier fly larva, dehydrated fish guts and night crawlers(worms) are some things that are good for chickens. You can buy them at any trading post or fishing store. Also scrap food seed like honeydew, cantaloupe and whole kernel corn are good.

Also years ago my grandmother would grow pumpkins. Right about this time. And their sole purpose was for her chickens and turkeys. After we gutted them around Halloween time. She would dehydrate the pumpkin guts and freeze them for storing.

Can you order feed online to be delivered?

Here are some threads on home made feed that I hope you find helpful ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/newsearch?search=Home+made+chicken+feed#
No, I don't think so. I don't live in America or the UK, so I'm unaware of any such local service. I'll take a look at your link you sent, thank you. I actually just found out of a very local store that carries the feed, so I'll hopefully pick up today, but definitely still worth reading up. Thanks!

very funny story!
My town isn't really for that kinda stuff, people here don't fish much, I dont even know of that much natural water bodies around us. And yes, my chickens are picky. They're also only about 5 weeks so they cant swallow big things yet, and they're extremely picky about their grains. chicken feed and eggs is about the only thing they like, but they cant just live on eggs til i pick them up the feed, so im a lil desperate for ideas...but i found about today about a store nearby that sells, so im gonna pick up some more today G-d willing. thanks for the suggestions!

Np. Oh yeah I forgot. Persimmons. And dried pumpkin guts. My granny used to feed her babies that instead of putting sugar in their water. If it ever happens again. Idk but I've been having to go to the Amish for feed. Everybody in my area has quit selling for some reason.

Thats an idea, thx!

Let birds out to free-range assuming you have the land. They will eat cooked fish regardless of size. Make certain they are getting grit.

What country are you in that makes all this so difficult?
