5 gallon bucket water with nipples

When the water has red or green stuff in it, it is called algae. Algae grows when there is sunlight. To fix it, you can either just scrape it off daily or remove it from direct sunlight. You can also add some vinegar to the water to make it slightly acidic so the algae won't grow (you can only add a little at a time or the chickens won't drink it).

I have the problem with the bucket collapsing in so that the lid does not stay on. Does anyone have any answers for this problem? We are getting ready to put up new buckets with new nipples...
Thank you, Rae
