Having a security camera on my farm

Hi everyone I was thinking on getting a security camera in my farm. I won’t be there at home for a week and I don’t really know anyone close enough to trust them with the responsibility to look after my farm while I am away. I was thinking of getting an outdoor camera with video surveillance so that I could monitor the farm even while I am away. Does anyone have a camera in their farm and are they effective? Is there any tip that I could follow to make sure that my chickens are safe even when I am not there.Thanks in advance.

The security camera will monitor what is happening, but it will not keep your animals 'safe'. Have you contacted your local 4 H and asked them to recommend a member to care for your animals?

I have video cameras on my property. If you are anywhere on my property, you are on 24/7 recorded surveillance. While that can be a deterrent for human interlopers, it does nothing for keeping your animals safe from animal predators. Animals can't read, so the signs declaring 24/7 monitoring of the property doesn't help. All it will do is let you see what happened after the fact. If your concern is human interlopers, then the cameras and prominent signage may help.

If you are going to be gone for a week and don't trust anyone close enough to you with your chickens, IMO you have bigger concerns...

You need to focus primarily on their care for that week,who is going to provide for them during this time?

A camera only gives you a view into what is happening, it will not offer any protection or offer you any ability to 'help' them, you still need someone at the location to act upon what you might see...

The short of it is that you need to find a reliable house/pet sitter if you are going to be gone for a week, and trust me I know that is a tall order many times but it's a necessary responsibility when you took on the duty of caring for the animals... When I go on vacation now, I have no less than 3 people lined up weeks in advance that can be called upon if the 'primary' pet sitter that was also lined up weeks in advance can't fulfill the daily task needed to take care of the animals...

I think that was a good idea, though I don't know if it will pan out. If it does, you're all set.

Who is going to feed and water them while you're gone? Surely you're not going away and planning to not feed and water them for a whole week. When you have the responsibility to take care of animals, things like vacations fall to the wayside if there is no one else to care for them while you're gone. If it's a situation where you'll be in the hospital for a week, that's a tough one, but you still have to make provisions for their care.
