Hello Oldhen,
I had a total knee replacement October of 2016. It hurts like hell! If you have stairs in your home, you better get in shape! I had a therapist come everyday for the first week. They really test your patience. She had me climbing the stairs the second day I was home! That's the hardest part. They also brought a machine for me to exercise my knee. That was great. You don't have to do anything, just sit/lay there, it does all the work for you. It doesn't seem like it's helping, but it really does. You'll need someone with you for the first two or three days. Don't resist on using a walker and bedside toilet. You will need them both. Have them there when you get home. I didn't.
I was recently told that I need my left one done. I will wait until winter, I have a garden and my chickens to tend to all summer. By then I will have automatic coop doors on my coops. The husband will feed and water for me. Stay in the hospital as long as they will let you! Good luck. If you have any questions, please feel free to message me. It is well worth it. I no longer have pain in that knee.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I did finally have my left one done 2 years ago. I resurrected this thread as I recently set up a date to do my right one.

It definitely was a horrible time for sure. I can now look back at this thread and see what progress I made and how long it took because it seemed so much longer than it was. It definitely is a hard recovery with PT being something I'm not looking forward to.

I have had many surgeries, 7 so far and I'm always pushing to get out of the hospital ASAP. I don't like being taken care of, so hopefully I leave the next day like I did last time. My husband is too familiar with taking care of my critters already.

Good luck for when you decide to get yours done. I'm gonna do mine in October again if everything is cleared for it. I didn't want it too late so there's no snow or ice to worry about. Last time I was out walking around with my walker and feeding the chickens a bit after the first week. I don't take laying down too well. :)
